Manet's Self-PortraitSince the interpretation of Mlle V was developed, it has been noted by another
observer that the matador's figure bears remarkable similarity to Manet's self-portrait
from twenty years later. Not only does he also wear a  round, black hat but, like
her, is blond with similar facial characteristics. Furthermore, as has been noted earlier,
they both hold a long, thin implement in their right hand (brush) with a rounded shape
in their left one (palette).
